Banca di Credito Cooperativo (BCC) is one of the largest cooperative credit banks in Italy. Now Andrea Greco reports that operations at 188 branches get been impacted by a cyberattack. BCC has posted a observation reassuring customers that although operations may be slower, the branches are operational (translation): We inform our customers that the Agencies, although with slowed down operations due to demarcation problems, are regularly open to the public. We would also like to inform you that the technical problems that get slowed down normal operations are being resolved and that they will be gradually restored by Monday 3 may at the latest. We remind you that the ATM is active and that the home Banking services can be used directly from PC or smartphone, through which it is possible to perform all information and dispositive operations. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation. The account on la Repubblica contains a screencap of a ransom mention reportedly seen on the PCs of the bank. The notation indicates that the attackers are the threat actors known as DarkSide. Although the attack does not appear on DarkSide’s dedicated leak site, DarkSide recently told DataBreaches.net in an interview that they do not publicize their attacks until they are pretty sure that the victim is not going to pay them.
